Confused by dial in and extraction [Delonghi Dedica Duo]
The more I read about espresso, the more I want to get a better espresso extraction. I know that dialing in plays an important role.
For example, I know that for 9g of ground coffee, 18g of liquid approximately should come out. I would be able to achieve it by pressing the single espresso button of my Dedica Duo. However, I watched videos where they prepared 18g of ground coffee by pressing the single espresso button, getting around the same amount of liquid.
I read the manual of my Dedica Duo, and it says that single espresso is for 35ml, and double for 70ml. I don't remember if 35ml is about the same 18g of liquid after extraction (I measured it but don't remember).
Also, I know that for 18g of ground coffee, should be prepared between 25-30 seconds with a total of 36g after extraction.
Now, my questions are:
- If 18g of ground coffee is prepared in 30 seconds, and have 36g of liquid. For this I should use the double espresso button, right?
- Why should I use 18g of coffee and use the single espresso button?
- What is the recommended amount of time for 9g of coffee to have a good 18g of liquid after extraction?
