Weapon evolution
I once read that weapons would have evolved differently if monsters and the like had actually existed.
My question is: Is this statement fundamentally correct? And does anyone have examples of what such weapons might look like?
I also wonder how this would work in different environments, such as caves and jungles, where ranged combat would be rather limited. Or, indeed, how one would engage targets with an exoskeleton.
Wouldn't gunpowder and explosive weapons then be the most effective? At least I would assume so, since they are so destructive.
Weapons shouldn't be too big, like in Monster Hunter, because then they would become too unwieldy.
I was thinking about a giant spider monster with a hard shell and whether it would be possible to damage its joints with a sickle-like weapon. This led me to the other questions mentioned above.
