An artist's sabre questions (late 18th early 19th century)

Hi LARP community! I'm making a comic about a character who uses a sabre and I would like to ask anyone who has experience with wearing and handling them for some advice.

Obviously this is a fantasy setting, but I want to at least attempt historical accuracy.

  1. Do you have to hold the scabbard while you run? I feel like even walking around with it would be annoying.

  2. Do you have to use a different scabbard/sword belt while horse riding? I keep seeing a type of sword belt with two long belts attached from scabbard to waist in illustrations. I assumed those are for cavalry, because the sword would hang lower and horizontal. But would it be all that troublesome to have a normal one whilst riding? If Verner here is going on a quest would he take both types along?

  3. What are some pet peeves when you see sabre fighting depicted in media? This is an area where I simply don't know what I don't know. But I feel pet peeves might be a good place to start. I do know that with rapiers people like to use far too much slashing when it's a piercing weapon. But with sabres you employ both?

  4. How much punishment can the sword take before I need to invoke some sort of Magic? Is it likely for a well made sword to break even in in "regular combat" (as opposed to the more magical opponents Verner will be facing)?

  5. Does he need a kit for the road maintenance? He's gonna be in the rain and snow at least some of the time. And. Well. Blood and such. In Japanese media they do the cool flick-and-wipe to get the blood off but I doubt that's enough to keep the blade intact for a good long time.

  6. Last but not least. You can see he has a wing for an arm. The sabre is a one-handed weapon, but I'm sure there are some implications to form. I don't think that any of you have had exactly this problem, but I would love to hear opinions!

Thanks in advance!

[OC] When the city is even less welcoming than the cursed woods

Apparently weaving with nettles is a sure sign of an Evil Witch set on bewitching the King.

Verner hasn't forgiven or forgotten what the people of Cederbjerg were ready to do to his sister.

From my new project, Verner's Tale! A comic about the fairytale Prince from HC Andersen's fairytale. The one who still had a Swan wing at the end of the story. We never find out what happens to him, so I took things into my own hands! XD

Fantasy Graphic Novel Cover

The story is about one of the Swan Princes from H.C. Andersen's The Wuld Swans. So it's fairytale-based with a bit of more modern quest fantasy flair. Does the cover give that vibe? And I would be happy to hear any other technical critiques!
