yesterday got a call from my dad - someone had whatsapped him claiming to be me texting from a friend's phone, repeatedly asking him to cashsend me some money (🙄). the number is a whatsapp "business" number with its location listed as a traffic circle about 5min from my parents' place. two things are bothering me:

  1. whoever the scammer is knows my name, that my dad is my dad, and his number; neither of us use social media, so I wonder how they got this. slightly paranoia inducing
  2. the previous day I got a sms with an Uber code I didn't request; on checking my email had a (legit) email from Uber w a verification code I hadn't requested; so presumably someone's trying to get into my account. the sms comes from a number that true caller registers as belonging to a random person, and has a "reply STOP to (number) to unsubscribe" so seems like it's part of a scam

bonus 3) my parents are not tech savvy and if I hadn't answered my dad's call I think he'd have handed the money over lmao. I've spoken to them about how scams work and given them a "password" to use, but would like to prevent it happening again, as the Uber situation implies something's going on

MY instinct ofc was to WhatsApp the scammer's number as many pictures of Fournier's gangrene as I could find but that's probably not the best idea lmao. anyone have any suggestions on what to do here? (I have changed my Uber password, will be changing other passwords today)

Edit: ugh just saw an email from Bolt (which I haven't used in years) that someone used my account to take a ride from a restaurant in the same area where my parents live last night... But had to pay in cash because my old bank card no longer works LOL. maybe they hoped my dad would pay for dinner

hi! my beloved and glamorous shopaholic aunt passed last year and left us a ton of 99% costume jewelery. I've found a gold chain and some sterling silver, but this tiny pendant (no chain, kept separately in a little packet) is stumping me.

stone looks like a cubic zirc, metal is gold toned, the hallmark is v tiny hard to read. looks like "9ct" but unsure if that's a real hallmark. when I turn it upside down looks like "156" which is nothing. phone camera is crap, I've tried using my loupe (medical not jewelers) lmao to take better pics. if it helps, she was not a rich lady but loved anything beautiful, sparkly and blingy looking. Please let me know if you figure it out! I'm trying to sell her stuff to buy some cute things for myself because that is what that broke zany lady would have wanted. I love and miss u m, I think of you every day, every fucking day. happy birthday
