When United SHOULD award PQP...

I just realized that it's really annoying that you are not awarded your PQPs when you purchase your ticket. Especially a non-refundable ticket. I have already given you my money. If I make changes to a future flight, I will be trading credit of my original flight to my new flight. Or be given credit to use on a future United flight that could potentially expire. In this case, United would get my money, but I wouldn't be granted the PQPs of my spend.
Not that big of a deal, I have 1K from last year and will get my 2027 1K by mid June. But it would be nice to get the Plus Points earlier.

I have to make a trip to Istanbul for work this summer. I'm based in DEN and Turkish Air (Star Alliance) has a nonstop flight from DEN to IST. I'm wondering how difficult it is to request an upgrade on their airline as a 1K. The other option is fly United to FRA, LHR, etc and have the majority of my flight operated by UAL + a 3 or 4 hour flight on to IST. I most definitely would prefer a nonstop to avoid connection issues and longer travel times, but really want a lie flat seat for this distance.

TLDR; How to request an upgrade on Turkish Airlines as a 1K?

I have a work trip to Sonderborg, Denmark coming up. My best flight options are to arrive in Hamburg, DE or Copenhagen and drive from there. Copenhagen looks to be around 4 hours and Hamburg is about 2 hours of driving time.

I will have to fly out of the same airport that I fly into and will probably stay an extra night in the city of my airport on the last day of my trip.

The driving difference is a consideration, but is there any issue with crossing the border from Germany to Denmark (and back) as a US citizen? Would spending an evening in one city or the other be more fun or more difficult having the car (just thinking about CPH and the little amount of driving actually done in the city). Is the drive from CPH to Sonderborg absolutely beautiful or worth a pit stop in Odense?
