iOS 26.4.2 broke click-and-drag for my disabled sister’s wired mouse, has anyone found a fix?

My sister has a disability and uses a wired mouse connected to her iPhone via a USB-C adapter as her primary way of controlling the phone. She has used this setup for years without issue.

After updating to iOS 26.4.2, the click-and-drag gesture has stopped working. This is the gesture she uses to flip pages, drag items around the screen, rearrange things, and navigate apps. It’s not optional for her, it’s how she uses her phone.

What’s happening:
-She holds the mouse button down and tries to drag
-The system registers it as a single click and the cursor freezes
-She has to release and start again
What still works fine:
-Cursor movement
-Single clicks
-Scrolling
-Every other gesture
What we’ve ruled out:
-The mouse and the USB-C adapter both work perfectly on a laptop
-Disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse doesn’t help
-Restarting the iPhone doesn’t help

This appears to be the same bug other users reported on iPadOS 26.0 back in October 2025 (Apple Discussions thread here) where mouse drag-and-drop stopped working entirely. It’s clearly still not fixed four point releases later.

I called Apple Support and the rep dismissed this as a “minuscule” issue not worth downgrading for. For someone who relies on a mouse to use their phone, losing drag is the opposite of minuscule.
Has anyone:

  1. Found a workaround beyond AssistiveTouch’s “Hold and Drag” (which is too slow for daily use)?
  2. Successfully downgraded from 26.4.2, and if so, how?
  3. Heard anything from Apple Accessibility (different team than regular support) about a fix in 26.5?

Any help appreciated. This is a real accessibility regression and it’s making her phone close to unusable.
