A bit after the guts training Shotaro and Philip were back in Shotaro’s trainer office, with Shotaro visibly irritated about something, with Philip catching on fast.

“I see that the recent news have been bothering you, right? I have learned that the security in this academy is pretty alert right now due to an issue.”

Philip would comment, before adding as he kept doing his research: “You want to intervene and get to the bottom of this too, right?”

Shotaro would groan, placing his fedora on top of his face, before replying to his partner: “Yeah. I may be a trainer right now but my roots are with protecting justice. So many people are going to lose their smiles because of this mess that’s brewing in this academy.”

Philip would smirk at Shotaro’s reply, asking him a new question: “Is it really that time again, Shotaro?”

To which Shotaro gave a simple response: “Damn right it is. Thought this will be a break from all the mess that happened in Fuuto prior, but it seems there is one more city we have to protect. More than that, an entire academy.”

Philip would shut his eyes, giving a relaxed sigh: “So half-boiled… But you are right. Action is better than inaction. Let’s get to the bottom of this and all the future cases to come, Shotaro.”

Shotaro would lift the fedora off his face, deciding to exit the office and scribble some more on the paper sign taped to his office’s door:

The international Mother’s Day was coming to a close as night has fallen on the big city, with Shotaro helping a lost child find their parents before things got grim. He didn’t ask for payment either, this was just a regular patrol and not a serious detective case.

Absentmindedly, he watched them leave after thanking him, letting out a deep sigh as he begun to take his leave. He had some leftover paperwork left to do in Tracen Academy.

Shotaro… Never really had a family. Both of his parents died at a young age, with him dedicating his entire life to protect the city he loves so dearly. And even then, after finding a father figure in the face of his chief, he too followed after once Shotaro grew up.

Philip wasn’t lucky either, his family wasn’t the greatest and the things they did were unforgivable. Which in the end left this seemingly precious holiday as nothing more than just a regular day for them both.

Not to say that he didn’t care about it, he still very much did. His trainees didn’t just appear out of thin air after all, they all have families. So Shotaro, in his half-boiled nature, decided to give all 4 of his trainees some cash to buy their mothers precious gifts for this holiday.

He may not have a mother to celebrate this day with, but he made sure that those who do will spend the day with a smile on their face.

And here I am, finally arrived to the big city… So, this is the place that holds this Tracen Academy Akiko told me about, huh? Umamusume… Beings born with unique names and inhuman physiology… Never heard of them before; but then again, the city of Fuuto was never really interested in racing as a sport, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

Still, she just had to mention them in front of Philip. Now thanks to his genius he passed the trainer exam and is excited to study and research them. Hopefully things won’t go south and Tracen will allow me to supervise him atleast.

Well then, I should probably get started! Philip probably went ahead, so I gotta catch up!

You spot a man in clothes that of a detective arriving to Tokyo via a train station, you overheard him talking to himself as well. Will you approach him?

Meanwhile at the Train Station… During Shotaro’s exploration of Tracen Academy…

A mysterious young man would arrive in Tokyo, fresh from Fuuto just like a certain detective turned trainer a while ago. This man’s appearance was that of a teenager with a green (or black, depending on how people see it) hair and slightly bizarre looking clothes.

So… This is where you went to, Shotaro? Your half-boiled nature is showing, you know? You’re risking a lot here going solo! I heard a lot of fascinating things about Tokyo and Tracen Academy. Things here can be so fascinating yet so dangerous as well, can’t believe you thought you can handle it all.

I can’t let you go solo, partner. Joker’s good on its own, but combined Double is far more superior than one. Right now, I guess I’ll just have to find you! And while I do that, I will make sure to gather as much information on these “Umamusume” as I can!

Umamusume… Entities given unique otherworldly names and strength far surpassing human physiology! I can’t wait to study all of them in detail. This is going to be an interesting research.

Philip has arrived! Against Shotaro’s wishes!

Well, I’m slowly getting accustomed to this place. So far it looks like exactly what Akiko told me. A huge academy where people train champions full of hopes and dreams.

At first I thought all of this sounded more like a fairy tale prior to my arrival to Tokyo from Fuuto, but seeing it for myself is certainly something.

Oh, right. Hey! I’m Shotaro Hidari. Recently I became a new trainer in the academy. So far I’ve only managed to only scout a singular trainee, so I’m opening this application for other students who want to achieve their hopes and dreams. The team’s name is Tantei! And I’m going to be glad to have more students onboard.
