I'm on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

So I made this post about 2 months ago, I complain how (in Nautilus) I can only see about 99% of all thumbnails for my vids and pics and you see, in the 20 years I was on Windows, I never ever had this issue. On Windows I could always see 100% of all thumbnails for all vids and pics. This post right here, this post was about 2 months ago https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/1rk40vk/i_can_only_see_the_thumbnails_for_like_999_of_all/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Then about 2 months after making that post, a bug has happened and now thumbnails in Nautilus don't show up at all. I'm referring to this bug right here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/2148074

And listen, I've been told that this is an unusual bug. Is it really just a coincidence that I was complaining publicly, how I find it very aggravating that I can't get all 100% thumbnails to show on Ubuntu, and yet I never ever had this issue in the 20 years I used Windows. 100% of all thumbnails always showed on Windows.

And then 2 months later an unusual bug occurs and now 80% of thumbnails do not show in Nautilus. Man what odd timing.

Oh and I've been told that this bug will not be fixed for Ubuntu 24.04 so I have to move to 26.04 but problem is, is my PC is old

My PC is quite old. It was built in 2015 my PC specs are

AMD FX 4300 quad core CPU (which was released in 2012),

AMD Radeon RX 550 4GB GDDR5,

16GB DDR3 ram,

Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard which was released in 2013. It's got an SSD. And I have my PC hooked up to my 65 inch TCL TV.

So I'm not sure if Ubuntu 26.04 even works on my old PC. Plus I always prefer to wait a while before upgrading, you know the .2 release.

I've used Thunar, it sucks! Nemo doesn't work right for me either. Nautilus is the best file manager if you're on Ubuntu. So I'm frustrated.

Man what a coincidence!!! I complain about thumbnails NOT showing on Ubuntu and then 2 months later, an unusual bug happens, and now thumbnails in Nautilus is totally broken. That's a hell of a coincidence.

And yes I know about installing ffmpegthumbnailer and I always do that but even then, only about 99% of all thumbnails show for my vids and pics. I can never get it to 100% I never have been able to get it to 100% on Ubuntu. I've been on Ubuntu for like 5 years now. I made the leap 5 years ago.

And you see, in the 20 years I used Windows, 100% of all thumbnails for all my vids and pics would show. I never ever had issues with thumbnails NOT showing on Windows. And yet it's happening on Ubuntu. And it really, really, really irritates me.

I complained about that 2 months ago and then 2 months later, boom! A bug happens and now thumbnails in Nautilus is totally broken.

And I was told this bug is very unusual. If it's unusual why did it happen? And so it's not being fixed for Ubuntu 24.04?

So I just submitted a ticket to Bethesda support about Doom Dark Ages. So I don't have to retype everything I just typed, I'm going to copy and paste what I submitted. This is going to be kinda long so bear with me. The following is what I submitted to Bethesda support, I'm just gonna copy and paste it here for y'all to read:

Just an FYI, my TV is a 65 inch TCL Q77K TV. It's a 2025 model. My TV works with all three VRR formats, AMD freesync, HDMI Forum VRR, and G-SYNC.

So yeah, in Doom Dark Ages there is a bug with 60fps@120Hz with VRR on Xbox Series X. In fact this bug is happening with every single game I've tested on my Xbox Series X. You guys are the developers, you guys are the professionals, you guys needs to fix this.

So in this video you'll see Doom Dark Ages which is 60fps on Xbox Series X (my Xbox is set to 60Hz output) and you'll see my TV's fps counter, you'll see my TV's fps counter maintains a solid 59.9Hz (when my Xbox is set to 60Hz output).

Ok then I go and change my Xbox Series X to 120Hz output and then you'll see that my TV's fps counter fluctuates from 119.7 to 119.9Hz, is it a bug? Why is that happening? It's too bad Doom Dark Ages on Xbox does not have a built-in fps counter cause I bet the games fps would not agree with my TV's fps counter.

Halo Infinite does have a built-in fps counter on Xbox and Halo's fps counter does not agree with my TV's fps counter, I'll show you this in the video.

So I recorded what's going on with my smartphone and uploaded it to youtube, please watch my video, here's the link https://youtu.be/1jtFbTc9E3Q?si=s68yLWw43OKTtWyv

I state this in the video. I don't know if the issue is with my TCL TV or my Xbox or maybe there's a problem with AMD freesync, Xbox uses AMD freesync for VRR. Playstation uses HDMI Forum VRR standard for VRR. I wish I had a PS5 to see if this bug with 60fps@120Hz VRR also happens on PS5.

I mean it doesn't have to be 60fps (it could be 30fps or 40fps) there is a bug with 120Hz VRR on Xbox. Well, and it's happening to Doom Dark Ages, so here I am reporting it.

I wish I had a PS5 so I could see if PS5 is also having issues with 120Hz VRR.

Again, I don't know if the issue is with my TCL TV or my Xbox or maybe there's a problem with AMD freesync.

Hey, actually I just spoke to Google AI and it said to me "The Xbox Series X actually supports two distinct VRR formats: AMD FreeSync and the standard HDMI Forum VRR."

Ok so Xbox actually supports both AMD freesync and HDMI Forum VRR so my bad. The Xbox checks and if your TV supports freesync then the Xbox will use freesync, if your TV only supports HDMI Forum VRR then the Xbox will use that. If your TV supports both freesync and HDMI Forum VRR, the Xbox will choose the more robust AMD freesync.

The PS5 though only supports HDMI Forum VRR.

So listen, this bug is happening with every game I've tried so far. I've tested Doom Dark Ages, Halo Infinite, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, and Resident Evil 4, all these games are having issues with 60fps@120Hz VRR. There is a bug with 120Hz VRR on my Xbox Series X.

Again, I don't know if the issue is with my TCL TV or my Xbox or maybe there's a problem with AMD freesync.

Also, since my TV supports AMD freesync, that is what my Xbox should automatically have chosen. Just an FYI. So yeah I'm pretty sure my Xbox is using freesync.

I have already let Halo Studios know about this issues with 60fps@120Hz VRR, and now I'm letting id know about it, then I'll notify Ubisoft, and then I'll contact Capcom as well. I will even send an email to TCL. I'll even contact Microsoft and let them know too.

But hey you guys are the game developers. You're the professionals. Will you please look into this and figure out why Doom Dark Ages is having a bug with 120Hz VRR on Xbox Series X? Please watch the video, I show you what's happening. Why does my TV's fps counter start fluctuating when the Xbox is set to 120Hz ouput? I don't like seeing that. I mean, is that a bug? Why does it fluctuate? Shouldn't it be a solid 119.9Hz?

I mean listen, basically all new TVs are now capable of 120Hz VRR, so 120Hz VRR is becoming the standard. My point is, 120Hz VRR is relatively a new technology and with new technologies it typically takes til the 3rd generation before all the bugs are worked out. I just got my TV last year and it's the first TV I've ever owned capable of doing 120Hz VRR. So 120Hz VRR capable TVs, this is still a new technology when you think about it. And it seems all the bugs still have NOT been worked out of it yet.

Please fix this? Please figure out why this is happening and fix this? Thank you.

And you guys are allowed to follow external links right? You're allowed to watch my youtube vid right? If you watch my youtube vid you'll see what I'm talking about.

Doom Dark Ages (which is a 60fps game) is having a bug with 120Hz VRR on Xbox Series X. Please fix this?

(End)

Ok so, is anyone here playing Doom Dark Ages on Xbox Series X too? Is your TV capable of 120Hz with VRR? Can you check and see if you're having this same issue? In fact if you're playing on PS5, could you check and see if you're having this same issue with 120Hz VRR?

PC gamers, any feedback for me?

I'm having issues with Halo Infinite when it comes to 120Hz with VRR, Halo Infinite has a built-in fps counter which is very handy, what I'm doing is I'm turning on Halo Infinite's fps counter and then I turn on my TV's fps counter, so on my TV I can see Halo's fps counter and then my TV's fps counter as well, and I'm using this to prove there's a bug with Halo Infinite when it comes to VRR.

I'd really like to turn on Doom's built-in fps counter, and then compare it to my TV's fps counter, so I can make sure Doom Dark Ages is running correctly, that it's correctly running at 60fps. Because Halo Infinite is supposed to be a solid 60fps but it's not, and I know this from turning on Halo's built-in fps counter, I am so glad Halo Infinite has a built-in fps counter, every modern video game should have a built-in fps counter so you can visually see that the game is running at the correct fps.

The only reason I know for a fact Halo Infinite does not run at the correct fps on my Xbox is because Halo has a built-in fps counter, my TV's fps counter does not even agree with Halo's fps counter.

To truly understand where I'm coming from, I made a thread about Halo Infinite's bug with 120Hz and VRR, check it out real quick please https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/1symtgq/alright_guys_i_need_your_help_so_halo_infinite/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

So I'd love to be able to turn on Doom's built-in fps counter, doesn't it have one? If this is a bug, id is aware of it yes?

Also, playing Doom Dark Ages on Xbox Series X, it's got some minor annoying little bugs that still need to be patched, they're still patching this game right?
