What if Tyler Durden was the real personality, and the entire movie is about him ejecting the fact that he’s losing his testicles to testicular cancer?
I have watched Fight Club more times than I can count. And each time I realize new things, and I think David Fincher intended it that way. One of my biggest theories, is that Tyler Durden could potentially be the real person, while the narrator is the fake one. Now bear with me here for a second. In the beginning of the film we see that the narrator, (who by the way is nameless), is having trouble sleeping, this could tie right into Tyler’s 9 jobs. One of the very first things we see the narrator do, is get thrusted into Bobs tits, at the testicular cancer support group. What if, Tyler Durden is actually losing his testicles to testicular cancer, and he created the narrator as some sort of catharsis, a person he can talk down to, one that represents every regretful and embarrassing moment in his life, he can give to and say, “I don’t want to be this guy.” His lack of sleep could have created this split personality, while also knowing that he’s not entirely real. Yet the hormone imbalance from losing his testicles is slowly actually turning him into the narrator, and taking over his hyper masculine persona. This is why he starts fight club, and project mayhem, to treat lost boys into becoming men who don’t care about societal norms, like every red pill influencer. This also ties in perfectly to Marla Singer, because she herself is a broken woman, she sees right through him and loves the chaos. An honorable mention is that the fear of cancer is constantly hinted at through the whole movie, becoming one of the strongest background themes, despite it never having any impact on the plot. The change from Tyler Durden to the narrator, could be Tyler Durden losing the hormones that made Tyler Tyler, and becoming more of the narrator. The final fight is nothing but a battle of ideology, when he finally shoots himself, is him “Letting go.”
