My husband and I travel the country with his job, he builds water tanks. A few weeks ago we were in Mississippi on a job site. We had our two fur babies with us, a pitbull named Mister and a pocket bully named Leigha. They are both very sweet, well behaved and heavily trained, both have been trained to be service animals with different responsibilities.
Our girl Leigha was my emotional support baby. She was the sweetest thing you could ever lay your eyes on and everyone loved her. When my anxiety would become to much to handle, she would stop and sit on her butt and hold my hand for as long as I needed it. This was one of the many things that she would do. She was literally my shadow and even loved long rides on the back of my 4-wheeler with me.
A few weeks ago some sick individual left out antifreeze to poison them (there were multiple dogs in the area so I don’t know if mine were the target).
One night Leigha started vomiting everywhere, so the next morning I rushed her to the local veterinary hospital in Oxford. When we arrived they stuck me in a room and took her to the back, I honestly couldn’t tell you what they did to her but shortly they brought her back, acted like it wasn’t a big deal, gave me 4 nausea pills, charged me $400 and said bring her back if it gets worse. At this time I’m still unaware of what has actually happened to my baby. All through the night she couldn’t keep anything down. The next day the vet calls and asks how she is doing, I explain much worse. They then said for me to bring her back in and for $250 more they could do bloodwork 😳 why wasn’t that done on day one. With that being said I decided to drive the 4 hours back home to our regular vet. My vet wasn’t open on Sunday and all other emergency care places were non reachable, so we were forced to wait until Monday. As soon as we made it to the vet office Leigha started having seizures and they rushed her back. Unfortunately she was in complete kidney failure by this time and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put her down. All of this cost another $750.
Fuming I called the first vet hospital and requested her records to find out what they did do and what I discovered has me livid. The only thing they did was take an xray of her and an ultrasound, at which they said that a ball of grass and a high level of gases and fluid was in her stomach but failed to test it. Not only did they fail to do that but they also failed to weigh her, keep in mind they send me home with medication but how did they know the proper dose without a weight?
This is not just a clinic but a hospital, how did they fail us so badly. They discharged her in distress and without a diagnosis. If they had done what should have been done then my baby would still be alive.
I’m just completely lost. If you are the praying kind, please say a prayer for us…thank you
