I'm not sure if this has been said before, but...

The first thing Crusch asks Subaru is if he's the 'real one' which implies that someone is 'fake'. I would assume that maybe that fake is Miklotov, and by extension the entire council of wise men.

I think Capella has been killing off the entire Council of Wise Men in the background, and replacing them with people who were transformed to look like them. I would suggest corpse magic if not for the fact that those people turn into dust afterwards.

Dunno what Filore's deal is, though.
