There’s been an ongoing leak issue in the rental as soon as we moved in. For the last two years, they haven’t addressed it until I recently called city code enforcement. They sent a handyman out lat week, finally, to rip out Sheetrock in a closet upstairs with visible water damage, and cut around the ceiling vent in the downstairs bathroom. These are related and leak every time it rains. There’s obvious rot and mold and just got word (no formal written notice) that the rental agency will no longer be managing the home after the end of May. Homeowners live in a different country, no rental agency will take this over in its current state.

No timeline on fixes/repairs from the agency and code enforcement officer is not getting back to me now either. I know withholding rent is not advised, but I would rather put that aside in case I haven’t move for expenses considering the current state of the home. I have documentation for the last two years noting the issues in the home and the neglect of the rental agency. For some magical reason, no one can seem to figure out what’s going on and have been doing band aid fixes the whole time.

I’m at a loss. My kids are settled and we don’t want to move, but not sure what my options are.
