I have seen pyramidal dendrites being hailed by research and studies as the basis of intellect at a cellular level. However, I have seen debate on the optimal structure of pyramidal dendrites in terms of thickness and arbor. See, "Diffusion markers of dendritic density and arborization in gray matter predict differences in intelligence", and, "Large and fast human pyramidal neurons associate with intelligence". Any rational or empirical thoughts on this contrast between research is heavily appreciated. Lastly, how do we remodel our own pyramidal dendrites to reach this optimal dendritic structure? Obviously utilising synaptic plasticity, but with which type of cognitive stimulation?
