I (24f) have a sister (35f) and she has two kids (9m) and (12f) we had a falling out about 1 year ago and she recently texted me that her daughter (12f) has been mentally upset. I love both of her kids with my whole heart, however, my sister is extremely unwell. She has BPD and is unmediated for it. Everyone in her life, including me, has to walk on eggshells around her because if you say even the tiniest thing that offends her, she will block you. Is it better for me to protect myself or stay in contact with her for her kids?

TL;DR: my sister is toxic but I’m not sure if I should cut ties with her due to her having children that I love.
