Most creators negotiate sponsorships emotionally instead of structurally

Something I’ve noticed lately with sponsorship deals:

A lot of creators think the negotiation is only about “asking for more money.”

But honestly, the biggest jumps usually come from everything around the base rate.

Stuff like:

  • usage rights
  • exclusivity
  • cross-platform bundles
  • paid ad usage
  • rushed timelines

I’ve seen creators accept a “good” offer, then realize later the brand wanted:

  • full whitelisting
  • 90-day exclusivity
  • raw footage
  • unlimited usage

…all included for free.

Meanwhile another creator with similar views negotiates the same deal into something 2–3x more valuable just because they asked better questions before replying.

Feels like a lot of creators still negotiate emotionally instead of structurally.

Curious how other people are handling this now in 2026.

Are brands giving more room for negotiation lately, or are they getting stricter?

Interested to know what tools the creators are currently using when setting sponsorships.

Not referring to YouTube AdSense RPMs; rather, referring to sponsor CPMs for integrations/shoutouts/dedicated videos.

Examples:

Creators with 10K – 50K average monthly viewers

Creators with 50K – 250K average monthly viewers

Creators with more than 250K average monthly viewers

Are they still using $20 CPMs? $30? Is it $50+ based on niche?

It appears that some brands are currently basing their anchor much lower than before.

Will be great to hear your experience as creators/managers/anyone doing sponsorships regularly.
