Ruling for Savage Opress - Monster Being PLayed Out With Ambush

Ok, so I know that ambush and when played abilities have the same timing window, and therefore you can choose to resolve them in whichever order you like. However, I would like to know if the conditional to a when played such as in the case of Savage Opress is checked before or after either of the ability resolutions. So if for example, an opponent controlled two units, and you Shien Flurried out Savage, if you were to resolve his when played first, then he would be allowed to ready, but after that whether or not you choose to resolve the Ambush, one of the two abilities is essentially wasted. If, instead, you chose to resolve the ambush first to kill one of the opponent's two units, could the When Played still be triggered based on the fact that in the moment savage entered play, the opponent controlled more units. Basically I am asking if the conditional check that exists on certain abilities occurs separately to the resolution of the ability itself, and can therefore be interrupted by another ability that might alter the game state, or if it must all happen consecutively. I hope this makes sense. I'd appreciate any clarification on the issue.

Hi Everyone. So I've been playing around with the new Director Krennic leader from Lawless Time, trying to build a solid deck for him in vigilance. Anyway, one of his biggest strengths is his flip turn, that comes with the very powerful ability to have another unit deal damage equal to their power to an enemy unit. Having looked at some decklists for inspiration, I found that, quite logically, First Light is a really good card to pair up with him, as you can have it ambush for 5 AND separately deal 5 damage. Having played with it for a bit, I realised that when an opponent is not playing in the space arena, though still a powerful play thanks to Krennic's on Deploy effect, missing out on the ambush is a bit annoying. This got me thinking if I could achieve a similar plot play on the ground arena, using a different card: Cad Bane from Secrets of Power (not the new one from LAW, though that one has its separate cool combo in the deck with the new Intimidator unit). He is a card with the PLOT trait, similar to first light, with the ability to, When Played: defeat a unit with 2 or less remaining HP. I thought that this would pair well with Krennic, assuming you could decide on the order of the resolution of the When Played and When Deployed. However when I tried it out on Force Table, it seemed to force me to resolve Cad Bane's effect first and then Krennic's, which is significantly less powerful a combo. Is this a glitch, or do when played plot effects need to resolve before a leader's when deployed effect?
