Dancers from Toronto, how do you keep up with it?
I moved to Toronto thinking it would be a strong place for dance opportunities and scene activity.
8 months in, I’m honestly not sure if that’s the case for me. I’m not seeing that many auditions or consistent job opportunities, and while I did land one gig that’s worked out so far, overall it feels slower and less active than I expected.
Classes also feel a bit underwhelming compared to what I was hoping for, and the cost of living here makes it hard to justify just “waiting it out” hoping things eventually pick up.
I’m starting to wonder if I’m missing something—like maybe I’m not plugged into the right networks—or if this is just how the scene is here.
Would really appreciate honest perspectives from people who are more established in the Toronto dance scene:
- Is this just the normal path here?
- Does it pick up later through networking?
- Or is it more realistic to consider relocating if I’m looking for more consistent opportunities?
