Alright I’m genuinely curious here.

People in this sub talk about Hyman’s Seafood like it’s terrible… but if it was actually that bad, how do you explain the reviews?

We’re talking tens of thousands of reviews across platforms and still sitting around a 4.9 star Google Maps rating. That’s not normal. Most places with that kind of volume usually drop way lower over time.

So serious question, not trying to argue just to argue:

Can someone point me to another restaurant anywhere in the U.S. (or even the world) that has that many reviews and still holds a rating like that? Katz’s Deli in NY (which is good) has more reviews but is at 4.5 stars

And yeah, I know the argument “they ask for reviews.” Plenty of places do that. That doesn’t get you almost 50,000 thousand overwhelmingly positive ones if the food is actually bad or even just average.

If anything, places that are mediocre usually get exposed harder at that scale, not protected.

I’m not saying it’s the best restaurant in Charleston or anything like that. But calling it “awful” just doesn’t really line up with the numbers. What am I missing here?
