Even before LTD was even announced I hated how in the first game we had to wait for miis to talk to each other and how you could only see them hanging out in places with static images/short animations and how you couldn't change anything about the island layout, it was so limiting. Now we can watch them constantly, customize the island as we like and the world is so lively with miis always doing something. Yes there are some features from first game that are missing (hope they'll add them later!) but these two features -open world and island customization- makes it very hard to go back imo, it's just much more engaging this way.
