Tldr: Anyone know a consistent method of getting pokemon to put things back in the box after they’ve processed it?

It’s driving me a little insane that they’ll get the stuff from the community box themselves but then be unable to put back the finished product and get more without me having to talk to them every time. Yet sometimes for unknown reasons they actually will put it back and work on more, which makes it more infuriating that they don’t most of the time. Doesn’t seem to matter if the game is on or not, or if I’m in the area or a different one.
