What if Minesweeper was a 1v1 / 2v2 Competitive Esport? (App Idea Will u play it?)
Hey everyone,
I’ve been obsessed with the idea of making Minesweeper more "head-to-head" and I’m working on a mobile app concept focused on a ranking system and live multiplayer. I wanted to run the game modes by you guys to see if this is something you'd actually play.
The Core Modes:
1. The Turn-Based Battle (1v1 & 2v2)
- 1v1: You and an opponent play on the same board. You take turns (5-10s timer) making moves. If you hit a mine, you lose. If the board is cleared, a larger, denser board spawns until someone slips up or runs out of time.
- 2v2: Same logic, but you and a teammate share a board. You alternate moves with the other team. One mistake by either teammate ends the round for your side.
2. The Speed Sprint (1v1 & 2v2)
- 1v1: You and an opponent race on identical, separate boards. You can’t see their board, but you see their live stats (tiles left, flags placed). Faster clear wins.
- 2v2: You and your friend are on the same board at the same time. You’re both clicking simultaneously to clear it as fast as possible.
- The Penalty: If you hit a mine in speed mode, you get a 3-second freeze penalty before you can click again.
Ranking System:
As you climb the ladder, the board difficulty scales by both dimensions and mine density, so high-rank games will be much more intense.
A few questions for the pros:
- Does sharing a board in 2v2 speed mode sound chaotic in a good way, or would it be too frustrating?
- In the turn-based mode, would you prefer a "blitz" style (5-10s per move) or something longer?
- What’s the "dealbreaker" for you in a mobile Minesweeper app?
Would love to hear your thoughts and is it something you would love to play so i can start coding or not!
