I’m primarily a bassist, but I occasionally play synth bass with my band and I play a lot of keys when making and performing electronic music. I’ve always been something of a pedal junky, and this has been even more useful for synths and drum machines than my basses. I’ve had a Grandmother for a few years, which I absolutely love, but I wanted something with recall and a few more features. The Sub37 checked all of the boxes and sounds absolutely massive! It sounds amazing on its own, but through a fuzz pedal, an outboard state variable filter, a (Moog) phaser, a couple of delays, reverb, a rotary emulator, or whatever I have around is like having inspiration on tap. I feel like my OCD and propensity for spending considerably more money than I can responsibly afford has somehow rewarded me. I’m a little frightened by how much I’ve been wanting a Muse, but buying one would be irresponsible in a way that would require therapy. Well, more therapy…

The current board

The newest addition is the 3 Leaf Audio Octabvre 3.33 and it is fantastic! It took over for the OG Octabvre that has been on my pedalboard since it first came out. I’ll still use it in specific situations, but the 3.33 is amazing. The Octabvre, Fuzz Bender, Germanium Woolly Mammoth, Frazz Dazzler, and Grey Stache are all in the Chromatron’s effects loop, but can be activated without the Chromatron being engaged. It allows the dry signal to control the envelope, but filter the post-loop sound. While this board is 100% designed for bass, I also use it for synths, drum machines, guitar, and as outboard effects when recording/producing. I feel like this very close to what I’ve been chasing after. As time goes on, I switch things out far less frequently. I’d like to add either a super clean digital delay or something that emulates an 80s rack mount delay, but I’m in no hurry. It’s weird to say it, but I might be running out of GAS. At least with pedals.
