As a kid, most types of cake I had ever heard of were named after their flavors. Carrot cake. Chocolate cake. Etc.

So, as I grew up, I assumed that coffee cake was the same-a flavor, a…description.

When I was 21, I was at my parents’ house, and my mom finally asked me why I hated coffee cake.

”Well, I’ve never liked coffee! Why would I like cake that tastes like it?”

Laughter ensued as she explained what coffee cake actually is.

EDIT/FYI: It’s a cultural/regional thing, apparently, which I learned after posting this. I’m in the US. Here, “coffee cake” is…a breakfast or brunch item, traditionally eaten with coffee. It even has its own Wikipedia page… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_cake_(American)

(I tagged this as a win, but I’m aware that the underlying stressor was of my own making. Please don’t shame me for it.)

A while back, I moved between states. I did all the urgent things for when you move…then I dropped the ball on getting my driver’s license, car registration, license plates, and car title switched over. I know, I know. I just…fumbled it.

My prior state car registration and plate tags would have expired at midnight tomorrow night. Today, I got my new plates and registration. Just in time. (And they’re switching my car title, but ehhh, I’m not planning to sell or anything.)

I still have my prior state’s driver’s license (because apparently that’s handled at a different office and requires different proof documents), but that doesn’t expire for about 18 months…I know, I won’t leave it so last minute. But it’s nice that I don’t have to go scrambling tomorrow to get it done immediately. I can breathe. And go hunting for my certified birth certificate.
