I picked back up Re:Zero season3 which I postponed watching in 2024 and started my viewing experience again during the mid to late end part of the season; Where I left off.

As I watched I started realising how emotionally immature Emilia sounds which started to make me feel bitter towards that character because in my mind its unfitting for someone at her age that being,“late teens”. Then it suddenly dawned on me after being irritated whilst watching that she was frozen as a child and has been emotionally stunted because of it-allowing for her emotional intelligence to make sense.

One scene that encapsulates this is when Emilia confronted Regulus saying, “I get it now… the truth is…I HATE YOU!” I remember thinking ‘isn’t that obvious?’. Regulus is a decrepit monster that lacks any sense of empathy, so the line came off less like an emotional revelation and more like a child finally understanding basic feelings towards someone terrible; not to say that I deemed her as a flat ‘black and white’ character who can be dumbed down to a ‘paragon of goodness’ who is emotionally regressed.

My question is does she get better? By which I mean does her mind grow or the trajectory of her character indicates growth, after all she is to become queen of Lugunica.
