Hi fellow gardeners. We recently bought a property whose yard was neglected and infested with noxious weeds. We’ve been diligently working every season to amend soil, use cover crops, and reduce the use of pesticides as much as possible. One area we cannot seem to find success with is a south facing rock mulch strip that has completely been taken over by Bermuda grass.
I finally broke down and resorted to spraying with Martin’s Eraser (weed and grass concentrate) and covering the rock mulch area with cardboard at the beginning of this spring.
A few options we are considering that I’d love the community’s thoughts on:
Completely removing the landscape rock mulch, hand weeding the area while re-seeding.
Remove as much Bermuda grass as possible and mass plant a resilient ground cover to choke out the Bermuda.
Move. (Jk but honestly, this is so frustrating!)
Any other suggestions we might be missing?
