Hi all,

I’m currently based in Johannesburg and looking into opportunities in the UK finance space. One advantage I do have is an Irish passport, so I already have the right to live and work in the UK without needing sponsorship.

A bit about me:

Qualified AGA(SA) through SAICA

Completed my articles in audit before moving into commercial finance.

Currently working as a Commercial Financial Analyst

Experience includes management reporting, P&Ls, forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, business partnering, and building automated reporting/PVM analysis tools in Excel and Power BI

Strong Excel/Power Query/Power BI background with a mix of finance, analytics, and process improvement work.

I’m trying to understand the best practical way to actually get traction from abroad. Applying through LinkedIn and job boards feels a bit like firing CVs into the abyss and hoping someone in HR discovers it during a full moon.

For anyone who has made the move to the UK finance market (especially from South Africa or internationally):

Which recruiters/agencies are worth speaking to?

Are there specific finance hubs outside London that are worth targeting?

Would you recommend applying directly through company sites instead?

Any advice on tailoring a CV for the UK market?

Is there anything that tends to stand out positively for South African finance professionals in the UK market?

Would really appreciate any genuine advice from people who’ve navigated this successfully.

I am looking at starting a remote bookkeeping business in South Africa. I see a lot of people in the USA and in Europe doing this and becoming somewhat successful with it.

Is there appetite for new entrants in this regard in South Africa, have any of you guys taken this venture and could share advice, tips and guidance?

I am a an AGA(SA) with a Bcompt Financial Accounting. My current job (Financial Analyst very operations driven rather than statutory) and growth prospect is just not looking to he an upward trajectory, and i have been looking externally with no luck thus far and hence I have been thinking of trying to run out on my own with more success possibly?
