I understand the idea behind AI being such a taboo with writers and all that. However I guess I’m wondering why AI for purely illustrations is terrible? For example I created a child’s book. I created all the dialogue myself and mapped out/described how I envisioned the scene to look like as I wrote. At the end I used AI to make my scenes come alive and it did a good job capturing exactly what I was looking for (although I had to send multiple edits and modifications to get certain details right). I have no drawing experience and I am doing it as a side passion so I’m not going to invest in an artist to do it for me as I don’t have that kind of money.
For illustration purposes how is AI not just an insanely valuable tool for any starting author or even seasonal one. Browsing this sub for the first time today people are hounds for spotting AI cover pages. Not even the content in the book, the cover page. I guess I just don’t understand the crazy hate for AI illustrations. Why should I or anyone else who likes to write be limited by lack of drawing skills or lack of resources to find someone to draw.
Rant over.
Update:
I’m not going to reply to every individual as lots of comments are similar in nature. I will however say as a blanket reply. I am sympathetic/empathetic to a degree. At some point my families welfare trumps another’s. If I physically cannot afford an artist and have the means to freely use a program to help me draw I don’t understand how that makes me lacking sympathy/empathy. Times change and technology changes. That’s unfortunate however it seems like you guys are using a flawed argument. Should we stop using internet to write and advertise? You’re taking away from local coffee shops, book stores, etc. Should we go back to pen and quill? Your keyboard is driving out old school writers. Technology changes and tools change using AI to assist your vision is just another tool that will make others jobs obsolete.
The only thing I really understand is the damage to the environment is something as a huge drawback.
