94 Bayou 300 intermittent run issues - about to give up
I picked up a very clean Bayou 300 4x4 that was not running. Had very low compression due to stuck rings. Quad now has fresh wiseco, lapped valves, and a freshly rebuilt carb. Quad will run perfect and the next time I go to start it, refuses. It will kind of chug, with choke and without, but only sputter and die.
Has fresh fuel and a good battery. I’ve tried several spark plugs, fuel cap removed, and cleaned the only ground on the engine I could find. Ive tried swapping the following with used oem: coil, cdi, rectifier - none changed the intermittent issues. I swapped a used oem stator that ohm tested good after mine failed the test. I have a used oem stator pickup to swap in, which is the last idea I have at this point.
I feel it’s ignition, but is there something I’m missing? What could cause it to run so poorly, but with no changes, run fantastic?
