Hello y’all !
After not understanding modes for a long time and skipping over it while learning theory, yesterday it finally clicked when someone explained modes as different colors.
So today i sat down at the piano and picked a random mode: C Dorian.
I came up with a chord progression by ear (within C Dorian) because i’m not sure about chord’s harmonic functions within modes yet, and i came up with:
Cm - F - Eb - D
It sounded pretty fire , but then i released that the F# of the D major chord isn’t in C Dorian. So my question is: what is the term for this D chord?
My guess is that the notes of D major are all 1 semitone lower than the notes of Eb major, and that that might have something to do with it, but to be honest i’m clueless as to why this works.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Love
