Antique apple press

Found this old press at a yard sale for 5 bucks. I'd like to try and clean it up to press apples. But I feel like there might be pieces missing or that I don't get how it's supposed to work, since it only screws until the top of the "bucket". My first thought would be that it used to have a large circle touching the fruits and that wooden blocks helped the pressure get from the gear looking part to said missing circle?

My niece's birthday is coming up, and she expressed she would like a microphone to record herself do voiceovers and amateur voice acting/dubbing with friends, that she could use on her computer and tablet.

She's 15, and there's a risk she will not pursue this hobby for long (which she's aware of) so we're not breaking out the big bucks for a first purchase, but still I'd like to find her something decent, or at least better than a crappy 10 bucks headset.

Is there any hope under 100€, given that neither her or us expect a professionally clean result ?
