Review] ISDIN Fusion Water Magic Color (Shade: Light) | The Holy Grail replacement for Acne-UV?
Hello everyone, I'm one of those people who lost their holy grail Acne UV sunscreen to reformulation and I started loolimg for a replacement for last few months and found something even better😭
Skin Type: Oily-Combination, Acne-Prone, and Sensitive (Fungal Acne prone)
Skin Tone: Light with Neutral to cool Undertones
Climate: Bengaluru (Humid/Moderate)
Price: ₹2850 on Nykaa
Usage Period: 1 Month
Background
I was a long-time user of the old Acne-UV formula, but the reformulation was a total letdown for me. After a ton of research to find a worthy replacement, I landed on the ISDIN Fusion Water Magic Color (SPF 50 PA++++). While it’s 3x the price of my old sunscreen, it has been worth every rupee.
Texture & Finish
The Feel: True to its name, it has a beautiful watery texture that blends seamlessly.
The Look: It leaves a silky, slightly "glassy" finish. It makes the skin look incredibly healthy and glowy without looking like a grease ball.
Coverage: It has the coverage of a watery skin tint (Light to Medium coverage). It’s enough to cover mild hyperpigmentation and even out the skin tone.
The "Oops" Test (Breakout Report)
I know we aren't supposed to do this, but I ended up leaving this on for 24 hours without washing my face twice this month because I was exhausted to remove it. Zero breakouts. Zero fungal acne flares. For someone with my skin type, that is a miracle😭.
Shade Match & Application
Shade: I use the shade Light. It is perfect for light to pale skin with cool or neutral undertones.
Warning: If you have a medium-warm skin tone, this specific shade will likely look ashy, please go for other shades like Medium or Bronze.
Routine: I apply this on bare skin right after cleansing and pat drying. No moisturizer needed! It’s hydrating enough on its own, and adding a layer of moisturizer underneath would be too heavy for my oily skin.
Eye Sting: None whatsoever.
Reapplication & Removal
Reapplication: The first reapplication looks flawless. However, be careful with a second reapplication as it can start to pill.
Removal: Much easier to remove than the new Acne-UV. Since I can't use oils or balms for acne prone skin, I use Micellar Water followed by a foam cleanser. This combo removes it completely.
Performance
Resistance: While I haven't tested it for water resistance, it is definitely sweat-resistant. It stays put during the day.
Longevity: Since it’s a watery formula, you do go through the bottle quite fast.
Final Verdict: 5/5
It is expensive, but for the finish, the coverage, and the fact that it doesn't trigger my acne or fungal acne, I’m sold. It’s my new permanent replacement for Acne-UV.
Pros:
Fungal acne safe
Beautiful skin-tint coverage
No moisturizer needed for oily skin
Sweat-resistant
Cons:
Expensive (₹2850)
Pills on the 2nd reapplication
Shade range is specific (shade Light is only for light to pale skin with cool or neutral undertones)
Also, I got a 10 ml freebie of the OG ISDIN fotoprotector fusion water magic along with it. I tried it once and it's lovely too, it's almost the exact same as its tinted sister, except the tint. It performs the same.
