Auto Update to 15.2.4 pretty much crashed my Roku TV
We have an Insignia Roku 66” TV.
Worked great until 5/10/26, when the latest 15.2.4 update Build 3224 decided to automatically update. It has been stuck and resetting non-stop since then.
Unplugged - nope
Hard reset with reset button - nope
Hard reset using remote buttons - nope
Per insignia tech support, wait one hour unplugged - nope
Hard reset for no less than the 20th time nooope
Read somewhere that the latest update messed up some people’s remotes - bought new remote
Before I used new remote, read somewhere, maybe other devices in WiFi were interfering
Turned off anything possible in WiFi, ran a lan line directly from my router to back of my tv, readied the brand new remote, plugged tv back in after another hour unplugged…..with all of that, I was able (after 5 reboots it did all by itself) to connect to the internet and it started updates again…96 to be exact. Got to the last update from yesterday and the whole tv is stuck again.
This is either the worst, improperly vetted update that is crashing the tv and Roku will either soon patch it OR this is a blatant attempt by Roku to obsolete devices older than 6 years, which I think is worthy of a lawsuit, but anyway.
Anyone have any idea how to force the rest of this update to install?
I read someone mentioned the Backdrops app caused them a problem and once they disabled it, it worked again but I can’t get far enough in to load that absurd app to disable it.
UPDATE: was able to get in to remove the Backdrops app….(about 15-16 tries of it rebooting and moving down to the app) and it did seem to get a little better..the screen pixels now look more normal (they had been slightly transparent, like they were loading) but it still won’t do anything of substance and still reboots if I after about 1-2 minutes (freezes and reboots itself automatically), sometimes acting like it’s updating and sometimes not.
