Health Insurance for >$40k/year

Hi! 26M here! Looking for some suggestions for Health Insurance now that I am off my parents’ plan.

Just moved to NYC and I’m making under $40k right now while I get settled and job hunt, so I mainly need something reliable, affordable, and fast to enroll in — not necessarily the “best” long-term plan yet.
I’m looking for recommendations from people who’ve actually dealt with this recently in New York:
Which plans/carriers were the easiest to sign up for?
Which ones actually covered basic doctor visits/urgent care without insane hidden costs?
Did anyone use Medicaid or an Essential Plan while freelancing/serving/gig working?
How strict was proof of income?
Which providers have the least nightmare customer service?
Is there a “safe starter option” people recommend while income is unstable?
I mainly just need coverage to bridge the gap until I have steadier income and can potentially switch to a better plan later.

Hey—I’m a male vocalist (26) based in Brooklyn looking to join a wedding or event band doing pop/Top 40 and adjacent music.

Tenor with a clean, modern tone (strong in current pop, some R&B crossover)

5+ years live performance experience and can MC

Comfortable with high-energy sets, quick transitions, and crowd interaction

Reliable, easy to work with, and serious about getting consistent gigs.

Open to rehearsing and learning setlists fast.

I want to lock in with a solid band and start working regularly.

If you’re looking for a singer or need a sub, hit me up! 🙏🏼☺️

hi everyone!

i (26M) recently moved to NYC and I’m trying to get a New York driver’s license (not just a non-driver ID — I want a full license so I can drive when visiting family back in Colorado).

Here’s my situation:

I have a Colorado driver’s license that expired 6 days ago.

I saw that in New York, an expired license may still be acceptable for identity purposes for up to 24 months, but I’m confused whether that applies in practice for an out-of-state transfer.

My passport, birth certificate, and Social Security card are all back at my parents’ house in Colorado.

My passport may be expired (I’m not even sure), and I’m wondering if an expired passport would still work as proof of identity for DMV purposes.

I do have W-2 forms with my full Social Security number clearly printed, but they’re about 9 years old. Does age matter for W-2s when used as proof of SSN, or is legibility/officiality what matters?

I’m also trying to get this sorted quickly because I’m job hunting and don’t want DMV paperwork dragging on forever.

Basically I’m trying to figure out:

- Can I likely transfer my Colorado license with it only being expired 6 days?

- Would an expired passport still help for identity proof?

- Are old W-2s (even nearly 10 years old) acceptable for proof of Social Security number?

- If you were in my shoes, would you just have family mail the passport/SS card ASAP and wait, or go to DMV now with what I have?

- If anyone has dealt with NY DMV recently or transferred an out-of-state license under weird documentation circumstances, I’d really appreciate hearing what worked.

Thanks — this has become way more of a bureaucratic puzzle than I expected.

Hi all!

My name is Bennett (26M) and I am seeking a furnished room or roommates in Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, Ridgewood, or possibly Astoria, $1,200/month or less. Looking for a month-to-month setup or flexible sublet to start.

I’m a singer-songwriter and i recently moved from Denver to NYC. I am hoping to find a good living situation with solid people. I’m clean, respectful, communicative, and pretty easy to live with. Big on keeping shared spaces peaceful and cared for. I’m social and friendly, but not looking for a nonstop party house.

Would love to live with roommates who are considerate, emotionally mature, queer-friendly, and value a home that feels warm and low-drama. I’m open to joining an existing apartment or teaming up to find a place together.

Comment or PM me with any leads, offers or suggestions!

TYIA 🙏🏼❤️‍🔥
