Health Insurance for >$40k/year
Hi! 26M here! Looking for some suggestions for Health Insurance now that I am off my parents’ plan.
Just moved to NYC and I’m making under $40k right now while I get settled and job hunt, so I mainly need something reliable, affordable, and fast to enroll in — not necessarily the “best” long-term plan yet.
I’m looking for recommendations from people who’ve actually dealt with this recently in New York:
Which plans/carriers were the easiest to sign up for?
Which ones actually covered basic doctor visits/urgent care without insane hidden costs?
Did anyone use Medicaid or an Essential Plan while freelancing/serving/gig working?
How strict was proof of income?
Which providers have the least nightmare customer service?
Is there a “safe starter option” people recommend while income is unstable?
I mainly just need coverage to bridge the gap until I have steadier income and can potentially switch to a better plan later.
