Hi all! These are my dogs River and Jericho. River is the light colored Irish doodle, and Jericho is the dark colored labradoodle. Both are 4yr old (give or take a few months between)

We got Jericho as a 6wk old puppy and he lived his life as an only dog up until he was around 2yrs old, then we got River (who was 2yrs old as well) from my cousins who couldn't take care of her anymore. When we got her, she had basically no training other than a few party tricks such as shake and nose bump (taking her nose and bumping the hand like a fist bump). A tiny bit of leash training, but other than that, absolutely nothing. She wasnt house trained at all. She had been around other dogs (dogs that my other cousins brought when they came to visit their family)

The only things she came with was a leash, collar, and one squeaky dinosaur toy (that she didnt have free access too...)

My question is: why does she not let Jericho play with the toys unless hes playing with her? He was trying to play with me, but she came running in as soon as she saw him with it. This has been a thing ever since we got her, and we cant figure out how to stop it. The only way we can make it so that Jericho can play with us is to put her outside or something, and thats not fair to her.

How can we stop her doing that and only playing with him when he wants to play with her, or she initiates it with him?

After awhile of this, he just gets discouraged and goes to lay in his kennel (where he goes when he feels unsafe or sad. AKA his safe place)
