Tank has been with me for more than 17 years and shows scruff marks from all the scraping. ~Walstad set up has been with me for 5 years now. This has been my companion through the most trying times. I'll spend a few minutes at the end of a long day just gazing at this wondering what it would like to be a 🐠 inside swimming. xD
Put together this planted tank today after researching for a few weeks. Hoping to get some more plants tomorrow! I didn’t realize most of the plants I got were epiphytes. So I currently only have an Amazon sword planted while my anubias are floating. Pleeeease give me some advice because I’m a major beginner!
Hello everyone, I just got a 75 gallon and im looking to do a low tech planted setup. Mainly looking for light recommendations, but also was wondering if there's a difference between running 2, 2foot lights vs running 1 4foot light.
Pic of my high-tech 30 gallon for attention.
Just about wrapped up setting this little 5.5G guy up! I'll probably pull the hornwort mass off to the right out once I feel like the tank is stable enough, but I am absolutely in love with the rotala that has taken off (left front, back right).
I had the plants growing in a 2.5G while I decided what to do with them, and I didn't realize quite how much the rotala had grown until I uprooted and replanted it- it started as two small bunches! I'm hoping the sad 3 stalks of moneywort in the back grow some new leaves and recover- these were the only survivors of 2 bunches of severe melt. I've got a couple little nubs of moneywort floating around that fell off the other rotting stems that I'm hoping will eventually grow some roots.
Started dosing fertilizers weekly and leaving lights on 8-10 hours and the plants are soooo much happier. My rotala even has little flower buds on it!
Eventual plan is a betta to keep the dozen bladder snails and single ramshorn snail company. 😁
Thoughts/suggestions? I need to top off the last little bit of water- I had it lower while I was tucking in the filters and equipment. I'm debating moving the filter over onto the right side wall of the tank but wanted to keep the hornwort from getting sucked in...
I did not realize how many swords I had crammed in my 20 high. Finally got in there and pulled out all the plants to see what I actually had. There was so many plants, omg. Took me 4 hours but im really digging the new scape tho.
Water parameters are all okay. PH is 7.8. Nitrates around 30. I’ve tried dosing Potassium, Phosphorus, and Nitrogen but that didn’t help. Root tabs haven’t helped. I also cut dead/dying leaves off.
Hi all! I don’t use reddit too often so I’m not exactly sure if this is the correct subreddit, but thought I’d ask!
I recently bought an Amazon sword at a local fish store about maybe 3 weeks ago? When I first bought it, the leaves weren’t perfect but they were definitely more green than brown, but now the opposite is true! All the leaves have turned almost entirely brown. I trimmed off the ones that no longer had a speck of green on them, but the rest aren’t faring well.
So, should I just cut all these leaves off and let the plant start from scratch? Will it stress out my sword? Can the leaves recover from this state? I have other plants like my Moneywort, Ludwigia, and rotala Hra and they seem okay. No fish yet since this tank is only a couple weeks old. I’d appreciate any helpful advice, thanks!
What are these cute anemone-looking things? Hair algae?
Does anyone know what kind of algae this is and what causes it on the glass? Really difficult to remove!
i bought this plant alongside other plants but maybe i didn't read enough about the complexity of keeping it, ever since i got it it's been like this, it keeps melting the base and bending to the side, some stems are melting the leaves but i don't know if its because they are dying or just regrowing. should i let this plant just do its own thing and let it grow for some months or should i remove it and place something a little bit easier?
Any ideas what this would be? I pulled it from the bottom of my tank where I have pee, puffers and cherry shrimps at first I thought it was a part of a plant, but I looked closer. It was detached from anything. Not sure if it’s a plant route that detached or what it could possibly be.
It was scooped right from his 10g tank with tetra, shrimp, and snails (some of which came with the duckweed). Since it’s going from tank to tank can I put it straight into my 6g betta tank or should I quarantine it?
I was under the impression that it would creep along the bottom and grow into the substrate, rather than hovering above the substrate. It's not even that the roots are pushing it up, it's that the plant is creeping along a good inch or two above the bottom and then the roots try to reach down. Am I doing something wrong?
I was at the back of my property and scored some massive wood pieces that I would love to use in my aquarium (houses a slider turtle) and my terrarium (houses a leopard gecko)
Ive seen various treating methods and would like to know the best way to treat these to ensure they’re as safe as possible for my boys. Most of what gets dumped back there is eastern red cedar, but it’s hard to tell as this stuff is pretty old and I’m not familiar with most wood types. I know many conifers are not the first choice to use, but these pieces are well-dried and without any sap smell, which is typically what I see recommended when dealing with conifers in aquarium tanks.
Ive seen baking and boiling as common options, but I want to make sure I’m making these as safe as possible. These are also some pretty massive chunks so I will have to get creative with how to soak/boil them (I’m thinking that commandeering the bathtub might be my best option)
Currently what I’m planning to do is power wash, remove any bark and decaying stuff, spray on a vinegar/water mixture to help kill bacteria, and then soak in a hot bathtub off and on until the water runs clear. What else should I do to ensure maximum safety? Am I able to make it safe?
These babies went from green, to sorta red tinged, to red!
why do the roots look like poorly planned power and why are they growing not in the sand none of my other plants are doing it jus this singular wisteria
