Is it legal for police to share a complainant’s phone number with the accused party?
Not sure if this is normal procedure in Bengaluru, but this felt seriously off.
There was a party/event happening near my area tonight and the music was insanely loud well past what’s reasonable for a residential area. I called the cops just to make a noise complaint — not asking them to shut the place down completely, just hoping they’d ask them to reduce the volume.
A little later, I get a direct call from the club/event manager saying, “The party will go on till 1 AM, please cooperate.”
Which means the police literally gave my phone number to the people I complained about.
That’s the part that bothered me the most. If someone calls in a complaint, especially against a commercial establishment, why is their personal number being shared? Feels like a basic privacy and safety issue.
Also, the music genuinely was way too loud. This wasn’t someone being sensitive over a small gathering. Windows-shaking kind of loud.
Is this standard practice here or was this completely inappropriate?
