Ok, so long story short (and I'm posting in TIFU, so no real explanation needed) my parents just moved to a new house. They have their "old" one (though they had it built in 2014) on the market with an offer which they accepted. This is the down time in between the papers being signed, etc. Sign is still in the yard, lockbox on the door and so forth but I've got the garage code and still have "access."
Wife and I were on vacation last week and my wife wanted to do a lot of her laundry from the trip. I wanted to do mine as well, but didn't want to wait. My gym is by my parents old house so I was like "Hell, no one is there, I'll just grab a pod from home and do it there, go work out and all is well." And I wanted to wash an old hat as well, so I grabbed a pod from our dishwasher. No big deal, right? So I get there, (the house is totally empty, btw) throw my stuff in the laundry and put the hat on the top part of the dishwasher and head out. I come back after my workout to find suds coming out of the dishwasher and was like "Ooooooooohhhh shiiiiiiit." Luckily I had my golf clubs in the back of my car and was able to clean the suds up with my golf towel, I did a rinse cycle on the dishwasher (the clothes in the washer/dryer were fine), and all is well. I'm going back later this afternoon just to check and ensure that everything is still "fine." But it did get me thinking "Wow, dumbass, what if something had happened and you jeopardized the sale of your parents 1.5 million dollar house?"
Ultimately I think everything is fine/no one will ever know and I think on the TIFU scale, this is pretty low, but still I keep thinking "what if...?"
TL;DR I went to my parents house that they have an offer on to do some laundry and wash an old hat which caused the dishwasher to spew out suds on their kitchen floor.
