I have a leak in my basement, coming from somewhere on my main floor. I have convinced myself it is from the toilet above, because when I shut off the toilet for a week, I am no longer able to collect any leaking water.

My suspicion is that I had a bad wax ring seal. I pulled the toilet out today, and I'm concerned that the flange is so damaged (rust) that even if I put a new seal in it will continue to leak.

Any thoughts/advice for this project? Should I call in a professional to replace the entire metal pipe that has rusted, or will a new wax ring do the trick?

Next, this is the wax ring replacement I bought. https://www.danco.com/how-to-video/perfect-seal-toilet-wax-ring/ Any strong opinions against this for the job?
