Question… identification request

I’ve had this beast for over a decade, don’t remember where I got it from, and just always figured it was an early PM2. The other day, it dawned on me that there had to be a PM 1, so to speak… or the original Para Military… is that what I have? The single position pocket clip was what got me wondering.

And btw this thing has been through it. I have to keep the pivot pretty tight to keep the wobble down. Can still Spydie Flick but closing one handed takes a bit of ingenuity. The old *depressing the compression lock while flicking to make the choil drop and hit my finger, then turning and flicking the rest of the way closed* method… like I do Enduras and other back locks. It’s doable… but it takes intention. Any looser and it’s a drunk blade.

But this thing has cut a LOT over the years and I have a bit of an attachment to it now… so I’ve never gotten any PM2s… the Para 3 and Sage 3 and Manix 2 have all been perfectly fine users, instead.

But now I’m questioning whether I ever really knew her…

AZUSA - Cochise... I got this knife as a reward for getting the Helldorado during the pre-order time period. They threw this knife in as an incentive, and I have to admit that it worked... I pulled the trigger not just because the Helldorado was unique and used Vanax for $100, but because this was part of the deal. I'm a sucker for Wharnies and this is just a nice looking little pocket knife.

The problem is that the stop pin, in the closed position, is SO CLOSE to the actual edge (circled in the 1st picture is the mark that closing it has produced... showing where the stop pin is contacting the base of the blade) that I will absolutely be sharpening passed that mark, especially if I re-profile... which I hoped to.

So, on the last picture with the blue mark near the circled problem area, I am planning on using a dremmel to carve out my sharpening notch. I really like this knife, everything about it, except for this part... otherwise I would just chalk it up to "live and learn".

The hoped for feedback:

I've never done this before and am not sure what Dremmel bit/file to use (assume diamond?), the safest way to go about it, or anything, really. Any tips...? How close should I put the notch to the edge termination? Do I need to go super slow speed to keep heat down? Do I need to alternate grinding with dipping in water? Anything else I don't know to ask about?

Thanks in advance!

... and I LOVE it. It won't get out of my pocket.

This isn't even the colorway I wanted... but I've ended up loving it due to it's uniqueness.

It has great everything, from the hollow grind, the milling, the ergos, the steel, the weight due to the extensive milling out of the scales (Reddit wouldn't let me put it last in the pics, so it's at the top, if you are curious) to the action, it's all badass.

Speaking of the action, this is the only Top Liner Lock I own, from any brand, that will fall shut without the button after you get past the initial open detent. It's extremely smooth and I am very happy I pulled the trigger.

Howdy folks!

Just a quick comparison of both of these awesome variants of the Porc... I love both... it's just such an easy design to carry and use.

The BHQ exclusive Aluminum Porcupine has a great finish, and that radial milling centered on the pivot is awesome. Love the colorway, too. Feels great in hand and has very well done chamfered edges. Good jimping on both the blade and the scales. It's most comparable to the Marten in build materials... but noticeably lighter.

The Ti Slim is fantastic. I love the stonewashed blue Ti, the milling on both the scales and the clip, and the backspacer and thumbstud collars. Super slick design. About the same jimping on the blade with a little less on the scales than the Aluminum version. The feel in hand is still amazing, and blows my mind considering how thin it is. AND THEY FIGURED OUT HOW TO PUT A TOP LINER LOCK IN IT! I like the Raccoon Ti Slim, but I would love it if it had the TLL instead of the crossbar. It's still a great knife... but this is going to get more pocket time.

Both have very similar blades, other than one is much thinner. Both are damn slicey... but of course the Ti Slim is more so. Both are 154 CM... a steel I have had in several knives, including other Vosteeds; a steel that they do well with, in my experience.

The action is great in both... but I do prefer the Thumbstuds of the Ti Slim.

That's it... hope all y'all have a knife day!
