My daughter has recently entered her “singing out loud at all times” phase.
and I mean all times. She can start mid-sentence, out of the blue, mid-anything. Sometimes it’s actually nice… other times it feels like my brain is being gently but persistently sanded down.
The worst is the car, because of the closed space. And she sits in the front seat… so you can imagine the volume. you think you’re safe, you put the radio on… She turns it off and starts her own live performance. No warning. And no escape.
It’s like being invited to a concert you didn’t sign up for, can’t leave, and that happens multiple times a day.
I tried gently nudging her not to sing all the time, but she gets defensive.
And to be fair - she’s good, her voice has actually improved a lot (i guess practice works). A couple of years ago we got her a microphone for christmas (a mistake maybe). she started using it now, so it’s becoming less “random singing” and more “full production.”
At one point the neighbors have started clapping when they heard her. Which is kind of adorable but also slightly concerning.
SO my question is.. how do you support this kind of enthusiasm without going a little crazy?
