AITA for refusing to let my friend"borrow" my clothes anymore after she ruined one of my favorite outfits?
so I (18F) have this friend (19F) who always asks to borrow my clothes at first I didn't mind because we're close and I know money has been tied for her lately. the problem is she NEVER returns things on time, and when she does, they either smell weird, have make up stains, or are stretched out.
a few weeks ago I bought this really cute outfit I had been saving up for. I hadn't even worn it yet. she begged to borrow it for a party I promise "she'd be extremely careful" honestly I didn't want to say yes, but I felt bad and didn't want to seem selfish.
well... she returned it 2 days later with a stain on top and a small rip near the zipper. I was upset because it was brand new and expensive for me. when I brought it up, she laughed and said it "wasn't that noticeable"and that clothes are "meant to be worn."
after I told her I'm done letting her my stuff. now she's acting like I'm a terrible friend and telling people that I care more about clothes than our friendship. a couple mutuals think I'm overreacting because"it's just an outfit" and apparently she's embarrassed that I called her out over it.
the thing is, it's not just about this one outfit. it's about the fact this hasb happen multiple times and she never replaced or cleaned anything properly. I'm tired of feeling guilty for wanting my stuff respected
now things are awkward in our friend group and I'm wondering if I was too harsh
AITAH?
