AITAH for this?
I rent in a really nice townhome community in a great area. I pay extra for an end unit that has a big grass yard next to it. Each townhouse has its own driveway, light pole, and a small landscaped area that is not maintained by property management. The homes are on both sides of the street, but only one side has a sidewalk that runs through the whole neighborhood. I live on the side without the sidewalk. So I have an end unit with a big side yard, and the sidewalk is across the street.
Our neighborhood is great overall, but over the past year we have had a lot of car break ins and theft. Because of that, a lot of us have Ring cameras.
It is also a very dog friendly neighborhood. We have three dogs ourselves. I do not use my own grass patch to let them out. I cross the street, use the sidewalk, and actually walk them around the neighborhood.
Now my neighbors are driving me insane. They live two townhomes down from us on the same side without the sidewalk. This has been going on for months. They were walking straight across our porch, right next to our garage, into our grass to let their dog pee, then walking back the same way. Multiple times a day. Having someone that close to our home feels really invasive. It also sets off our camera every single time, starting as early as 5 AM.
We reported it to property management. It would stop for a couple weeks, then start again. They were also doing it to the neighbor between us. That neighbor confronted them, it stopped briefly, then started again.
Now they are no longer walking across our porch, but they are still coming halfway to three quarters up our driveway to use the grass. After bringing it up to property management four times, I started triggering the alarm every time they did it. That did not stop them either.
So I reported it again. Property management called them. The very next day they did it again. I called property management again, they called them again. Four days later, same thing.
At this point I am at my limit. I am honestly more frustrated by the fact that they know it bothers us and keep doing it anyway than the actual behavior itself.
I understand we rent and share space, but that makes me more mindful of respecting other people’s space, not less. I would never walk my dogs onto someone else’s property like that.
So AITAH for continuing to escalate this and setting off the alarm when they come onto our property? AITAH for really wanting to take it a step further and file a complaint with the police?
Edited to clarify: I am NOT upset that their dog is peeing on our grass. I am upset that they are walking the full length so closely to our home, which feels invasive (at one point their dog was sniffing my front door). My driveway is 20ft long. There is NO need to be that close to my home. And I am annoyed because them being so close is setting off our ring camera at all hours of the day.
