(Low Effort Sunday) 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' proves Alan Moore is Full of Shit

So, if you have been lurking in forums about western comic-books, you would know about the internet's favourite wizard, the cool, genius man, which we simpletons simply cannot comprehend, the one person people unironically quote to sound deep, Alan Moore.

Under his belt, Moore has some famous comics like The Killng Joke, Swampthing, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The man who had everything and so on. You probably have heard some of his titles.

Now, Moore is infamous for disliking almost all adaptations of his works , saying he is misunderstood, that yes, he does write some 'dark' comics, but now regret writing them, because readers are stupid and they didn't see his vision. Most of his stories not only became popular, but also had an impact on the stories that followed, leading to new, grittier comics which Moore (and his fans) claims to miss the point.

There is a lot to say about a man that thinks most people are idiots, all while continuing to write to said people more 'deep' stories, and then getting angry by the fact that his stories are 'misunderstood', but I am not here to write about this.

You see, usually people will talk about Moore as someone who write hopefull stories, someone that uses dark themes only to show the good, someone who actually dislike 'edgy' stories and everyone who attempted to follow in his footsteps.

And on this I call bullshit, because of one book that shows very clearly that he is really just an edgy man that claim to be smarter then everyone else, and this story is called 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'

Let me tell you about some of the "artistic choices" made by our lord and saviour Moore:

Harry Potter is the Antichrist

Wizard school shooting

James Bond his a rapist and a fraud

Mr Hyde (Dr Jeckil and Mr Hyde) rapes the invisible man (titular character of another story) because he almost raped Mina (from the original novel)

One of the main characters dies by a lighting from a penis

A lot of rape

As you can see, this story was clearly written by snyder edgy teenager the best comic writer since the dawn of time.

I don't think I need to say more, so until next time, thank you for reading my rant, sincerly,

DoctorZaga20

Edit: I want to be clear about something

Writing adult stories that feature uncomfortable themes is one thing and then complaining about being misynderstood is one thing

Constanly writing 'adult' stories that get constantly 'misinterprted' and then writing one of the most edgiest stories you could think of, all the while claiming you are not actually edgy is another

The other day I watched the Adam Sendler's film, "50 First Dates", and I thought the main aspect of the film was very well handled for a rom-com, so here I'm, writing about this.

Plot summery: Henry (Sendler) is a womaniser and veterinary doctor in Hawaii, he makes every tourist he meet to fall in love with him and then he makes-up a reason for them to not stay in touch, all of this because he is afraid of commitment. Enter Lucy, a local that overwhelms Henry's heart after his usual routine; Henry realises he doesn't want this relationship to end like all the others and decides to take her on her offer and meet her tomorrow in the same resturant.

Suprise! Lucy doesn't remember a thing, and it explained that she suffered an head injury that hurt her ability to form short term memory (Anterograde amnesia). Long story short, Lucy fall in love with Henry every day, her family doesn't like this until they see it has a good effect on her, then Lucy herself doesn't want it bacause she understands that Henry will never have a normal life with her, they stop, Lucy is sent to an institute, Henry realises that Lucy may still harbour some feeling for him, it turns out she does, cut to 4 years later, Henry still has to remind Lucy every day of their love, but they are also married and have a daughter, the end.

It may not look like it from my summery, but this film is great and you should watch it, genuinally very romantic film that doesn't shy from the realistic hardship of such relationship, and this is specifically what I want to write about.

If you are like me, you may have felt uncomfortable, because there are maybe some issues of consent, and the fact that Lucy is basically disable and easy to take advantage on, but I was actually satisfied by the end, because delve into this things.

It paints Lucy life as and those who live her as a realistic tragedy, how her dad and brothers has to give her the same newspaper every day, how they need to paint the walls white so she could paint on them in the afternoons only for them both to repaint white for the next day, and when Henry comes into the picture, they are afraid he is going to use her situation, but when they accept him in, we are shown that he needs to give up on his dream just so he could make Lucy fall in love with him, every single day.

And by the end of the film ?

Lucy still suffer from the same defect, she still cannot form short-term memories. Before Lucy realised what a toll she is on Henry's life, he would show her, every single morning, a tape in which he explain their relationship and what happend to her, and in the "epilogue", he just has to make a new tape, in which she watch what they did, their wedding>! (a jewish one, which is nice touch) and when she goes up she realises she is on the boat in arctic (Henry's dream), and Henry, and their child, greet her.!<

While the film shows that Henry does have some effect on her condintion, and it implied that while she can't remeber it, her feelings for Henry stay the same, it also shows that she never fully recorved from it. Herny and her family will always have to start every day with reminding Lucy her condintion, see her despair and tears, and the films does a good job showing how heartbreaking the entire procces is.

This rant probably went on too long, and I don't know if I was able to fully make you understand what I love about the depiction and how Lucy isn't really cure in the end, but anyway, thank you for reading my rant, by yours truly,

^((This a rant I made long ago and now I finally have enoguh karma to post it.))

Sorry in advance about my English, I am not a native speaker.

I am talking about this scene, if you didn't watch Young Justice (you should watch Young Justice).

A fast summery: the justice league is already established and now has to choose between new candidates which one should join their ranks. Until now a the usual stuff, but the discussion heats up because in the previous episode, it was revealed that one of the current member, Captain Marval (AKA Shazam) is actually a 10 years old by in a body of an adult.

And from this point on, it's become easily one of the best scene in the series becaue it actually explore an idea that, while prevelent in a lot of fantasy/superheroes media, is never really explored:

What count as an adult.

Think about it for a minute: when you have new kind of beings that ages slower, or clones that are biologically 18 but has the exprience of a toddler, or a literal kid that can age himself up and down, what do you consider as an adult?

In the scene there are few examples:

Miss Martian - born before 48 years yet is a teenager by martian biological standard

Superboy - a clone, "born" less then a year ago, clearly an adult from biological perpective

Captain Marvel - a child that can become, with a single word, a full grown adult and vice versa

And this is great, this scene dives into this idea that "adult" is not easily definable in a fantsay world, and this is why I think fantasy and sci־fi have so much potential exploring this idea. There are great stories that can be told exploring the fact that there are sepient species beside human, be it elves or aliens, which don't fit into are human rules. What about an elf and a human that grows together but while the human turns adult the elf stays a child? What is the basic healthcare for a human versus an alien? Should someone with thelepatic abilities (like Xavier from X- men) be allowed to use his power in criminal investigation, or is this breaching the right for privacy?

I don't know how to end it, so have good day, by yours truly
