*Please note: I am not asking anyone for a diagnosis! Simply wondering if this COULD be a possibility. I will likely seek medical care, just wondering if anyone else had this happen.
I’m a 25 year old female, 5’4 and 120 pounds. 2 weeks ago, I suddenly developed very intense thirst. I used to go days without drinking more than 20-40 oz of water and felt fine.
Now? I’ll drink well over a gallon and still feel thirsty. And I’m talking an unbearable thirst. My throat will feel tight. My mouth will feel insanely dry. There’s still some saliva but it feels so so dry. I can’t ignore it. Ive tried on multiple occasions chugging 30+ oz of water in one go, and I’ll be thirsty again in minutes. I’ve tried drinking electrolyte drinks to see if it helps and I’ve noticed very minimal change, if any at all. I’m at a point where I carry my water constantly at work because I feel almost stressed if I don’t have constant access. I’m in the bathroom at LEAST hourly. I’ve noticed this symptom does get worse after eating. I work a job where people rely on me, and it’s stressful constantly needing to be drinking and ducking into the bathroom. My lips are also dry and peeling. Before, this only happened to me when I went days without drinking enough. In fact it was how I knew I needed water! But to me, my body is behaving as though I’m dehydrated when I’m drinking well over 100oz a day.
I am not trying to jump to a conclusion and say I have diabetes. I hope I don’t! However, other causes for this thirst don’t seem to apply to me. I’ve read about potassium, calcium, iron, and have been eating foods rich in these and am still having this symptom. I’ve tried adding electrolytes and have had no change.
HOWEVER- I’ve had a couple of days in this period where I haven’t felt as thirsty. Could symptoms come and go before a diagnosis? Could they get worse? What were your symptoms before a diagnosis?
AGAIN- I’m not asking anyone to diagnose me. Just looking for similar experiences!
