Been editing professionally for about a couple of years now. Mix of corporate, doc work, and a bit of broadcast. The work is still there but sometimes has shifted in the last 18 months and I don't think it's just me. Rates are softer, turnarounds are insane, more clients want first cuts in a day and the AI conversation is starting to creep into every pitch.

I'm not burnt out exactly but just quietly wondering if I'm going to be doing this in 5years or if I should start planning an exit now while my skills still translate somewhere. So I wanted to hear from people who actually made the jump.

What did you move into? Was it close to what you were doing? something like motion graphics or producing etc or did you go completely sideways into something unrelated? How long did it take you to feel financially stable again? and the honest one. do you miss it or was leaving the best decision you've made?
