My great grandfather as he got into his 90s had a mucus in his throat where after eating dinner he would cough and try to hack it up to spit it out but it wouldn't budge. The Dr's had no clue what it was. By the time he got to 96 we couldn't even eat dinner with him because we could hear it gurgling as he ate/breathed. It would make you puke. He would cough until he threw up his food. Dr's scoped his throat and could never find the problem. Note: my grandparents were very active into their late 90s. They had 5 acres and would be out doing yard work in 100° weather like they were 25. I hope that is hereditary too!

Now I (41f) notice a constant mucus in my throat. It worsens when I eat and it can not be coughed up. I'm afraid it's what ever my grandpa had. I only notice it at all because of what my grandfather went through. Dr's say I'm healthy even though they found nodules on my thyroid they say it's normal. So I'm feeling my way blindly through the dark trying to fix it myself but I dont know it that's relevant. I dont know my grandpa's history beyond what I put and I'm fine otherwise. Like I said already I probably would not have paid attention to this if it wasn't for him.

It seems to be a firm mucus attached to right at the top of my throat. It gets worse after eating, and trying to cough it up makes you almost puke because it triggers a gag reflux like you're choking.

It's very strange, and the Dr's dont seem to see it with a scope.
