Hi, I recently had to get a new monitor because my old one kicked the bucket. I swapped my second monitor to be my main, and got a new second monitor. I use the main one (an ASUS VG259QM) as an all-purpose one, that can either connect to my PC, my Xbox, or my Nintendo Switch. I have a switcher box to change inputs, and that works fine. I've been able to set up everything how I want except for my Switch 2.

The Switch 2 defaults to using HDR if the connected display has HDR enabled. I don't want to use HDR, because I tend to run my monitor with specific settings to be more gentle on my eyes while still looking nice. It has lower brightness than HDR tends to use, which is nice for when I'm browsing at night, and encourages me to open a window for natural lighting during the day. With how much time I spend at my PC, this is important to reduce eye strain. I also get photosensitive migraines, so the brightness of light (especially white light) is an issue.

With HDR enabled on Nintendo Switch 2, everything looks a lot brighter, and a lot more washed out. I know from a cursory glance at other subreddits that the "washed out" look is a common complaint to do with the hardware the monitor is plugged into, so I'm wondering if there's a way to disable HDR on the switch 2.

Yes, I know there's a toggle to turn off HDR, but that just disables the display entirely. Am I missing something? I've also asked on r/monitors to see if anyone is able to find a solution monitor-wise, because I think that's the most likely way to fix this. But I don't know for sure if that's the problem. It's to do with the interaction between this specific monitor, which has no obvious way to disable HDR, and the switch 2, which I cannot disable HDR on without my monitor going black.

TL;DR: I can't disable HDR properly without the monitor screen going black. The monitor defaults to HDR whenever the switch 2 is connected. I don't want to play in HDR due to light sensitivity.
