On page 89 in the book, the following interaction occurs where Bixby is calling Chief Brody saying 'you better come down to the station. I have a hysterical woman here':

A twinge of unease shot through Brody’s stomach. “What happened?” “It’s …” Bixby faltered, then said quickly. “Thursday.” “Listen, asshole …” Brody stopped, for now he understood. “I’ll be right there.” He hung up the phone.

Now my issue Is the "whole listen, asshole" part. It just seems so abrupt and out of nowhere and for the life of me I cannot figure out any context as to why he says it, what it means or anything.

Any insights you may have are greatly appreciated
