Applied because it was remote, that was the whole point. I'm about 90 minutes from the city and I left my last job specifically because they pulled a return to office after promising flexibility. So when I saw "fully remote" in the listing I figured okay, they at least understand what that means.
First two interviews were fine, nothing came up about location. Third interview was with the hiring manager and about 20 minutes in she says "just so you know we're in the office Monday through Thursday, Fridays are flexible." I asked her to clarify because the listing said fully remote and she got a little quiet and said "oh the team is mostly remote-friendly but we do prefer people nearby for collaboration." I live 90 minutes away. I asked if the listing was going to be updated and she said she'd check with the recruiter.
Recruiter called me the next day and said "the role does require some onsite presence, we should have been clearer." No kidding. I withdrew and she seemed genuinely surprised, like I was the unreasonable one for not wanting to commute 3 hours a day after applying to something advertised as fully remote. Checked the listing that afternoon and it still said fully remote. It probably still does
