Full yard - foam or no foam?
I am going to do a 4x8 yard with kato roundhouses, kato turntable and a kato engine house. Maybe some other yard houses... But plan is 3 outer loops where farthest out goes up 2 degrees and middel can exit table then an inner loop. This way i can run trains. Plan is to do this and enjoy over a few years. If I end up buying a house with a bigger basement I can integrate it in and make the layout bigger. Then that's where it will spread off to a town and other things and leaving the yard a definite full yard.
My question is this: should I use foam at all? I currently have 2 in phone down on top of the 4x8 but I questioned if it is really needed for a yard. What would you do? Would you put it straight on to the wood?
I drew this up in any rail a long time ago and I need to modify it to make it a full yard and get rid of the town. But it gives you an idea of what I'm thinking
